Diu is a town in Diu district in the union territory of Daman and Diu, India. It was the location of the pivotal Battle of Diu in 1509 between Portugal and a combined force of Turkey, Egypt, Venice, the Republic of Ragusa (now known as Dubrovnik) and the Sultan of Gujarat, Mahmud Begada.

The town of Diu lies at the eastern end of Diu Island, and is known for its fortress and old Portuguese Cathedral. It is also a fishing town.

A beautiful blend of sea, sand and sun, Diu is a God's gift to those in quest of a blessed land where the weary weight of this unintelligible world can, for a while, be lightened and the waking soul can hear the music of the nature. This tiny island of breeze, beauty and serenity situated off the southern tip of the Saurashtra (Kathiawad) peninsula of Gujarat, lapped by the Arabian Sea, is a picture of calmness with superb beaches and a fascinating history.

Diu was ruled by many well-known kings and dynasties during the prehistoric, ancient and medieval times. It was a Portuguese colony until 1961. It is now a Union Territory, separated from Goa in 1987.It was an important trading post and naval base from where the rulers controlled the shipping routes in the northern part of the Arabian Sea between the 14-16th centuries.

The amazing amusement park at Devka beach with its multi colored fountains is worth watching. Kids love being there and on festive occasions the illuminated park is a big draw for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. You may take a pony ride or just beat the heat with a swim. Far away from the madding crowds is the Jampore Beach. The joy of solitude and serenity is best felt at the soft soothing sand of the Jampore Beach. Swimming and picnic at the Casurina plantation are perfect plans for holidaying. Nani Daman offers a bouquet of tourist attractions like the Gandhi Park, Daman Fort, the Church and a fishing dock. Close by is Moti Daman that is a treasure trove of monuments and ancient structures. Here you must check out the lovely lighthouse.
